The Faculty for Asian Civilization Studies

The Faculty for Asian Civilization Studies is a newly established institute within the Northeast Normal University . The goal of this faculty is to enhance the regional and cross-field studies of Asian history and cultures and training of high academic standard graduate students in this area. Affiliated with the Faculty of History and Culture, this faculty conducts its research and graduate student training rather independently. There are 4 major subjects that are the research focus, namely, Eastern Asian intellectual history, Eastern Asian literatures and cultures, traditional scholarship of China , and synthetical studies of Asian history and civilizations. Methodologically, this faculty emphasizes cross-field studies, regional studies, and comparative studies. In addition to studies on special issues, this faculty also conducts resource translation and Publications.

From 2006, The Faculty for Asian Civilization Studies lunched its graduate student training program in the following areas: Chinese history, Eastern Asian intellectual and cultural history, traditional Chinese scholarship, cotemporary Chinese literature, and theory of literature and arts. From 2007, this faculty will start its training of Ph.D. student in the following 4 areas: Eastern Asian intellectual history and Cultures, Ancient Chinese Civilization, Eastern Asian literary cultures, traditional Chinese scholarship. In graduate student training, this faculty emphasizes broad knowledge building up, Multilanguage proficiency and research ability.

Currently, this faculty has six full professors and two associate professors. It is inviting distinguished scholars from across the world to participate its teaching and research programs. This faculty encourages scholarly exchanges with worldwide academic institutes and accepts international graduate students.
